Shoreline Stabilization Work Closes a Portion of the Splatsin te Secwépemc / Shuswap North Okanagan Rail Trail

September 10, 2026

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Mara Lake, B.C.— Rail Trail closures are scheduled to start this Monday, September 14 for shoreline stabilization work along Mara Lake between Folland Road and Rosemond Lake Bridge. The work will continue through the fall into December.

During this time, public access to the Mara Lake section of the Rail Trail between Sicamous and Mara will be limited to weekends only. The Sicamous Ferry shuttle will continue operating on weekends, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm through September until the Thanksgiving long weekend, wrapping up on October 12.

Crews will work to repair and clear the trail and move equipment off the trail as much as possible each Friday, to allow people to use the trail over the weekend. Please navigate through the work zones carefully, obey all signs, and expect uneven ground throughout.

Rail Trail users will continue to be able to use 21 kilometres of the trail now open between Enderby, Grindrod, and Mara.

Project Construction Manager Jeromy Schuetze acknowledges the timing is not ideal.

“We had to wait for provincial permits which dictate when the work can be done,” he explains.

“The trail will be closed from Folland Road at Km 2.8 to Rosemond Bridge at Km 14.8. The start date pending the permit issuance is expected any day now. We will work from the south to north and will open sections as we go. Our goal will be to reach Folland Road by Christmas, but this could move either way by a week or two.”

Limited access from the north at Folland Road to move materials and heavy equipment means the full section of trail must be closed when work is underway.

Schuetze adds, “In the new year, we will work from Folland Road to km 0, so this section would be closed until April 2027.”

The Bruhn Bridge Hwy 1 pathway connector between Sicamous and the Rail Trail is scheduled for completion in 2027.

A Public Information Bulletin with access details, maps, and construction updates is also available at www.shuswapnorthokanaganrailtrail.ca

The rail trail partners thank everyone for their patience and continued support as everyone works toward completing the Shuswap North Okanagan Rail Trail.
